Chukwudubem Amasiani, Nigeria’s only representative at the ongoing CAT/ITF African Junior Tennis Championship Warm Up in Kenya, is making the country proud.

The youngster, Africa’s number three U-14 player, is in the semifinal of the Grade 1 tournament after seeing off his opponents in the opening rounds of the championship.

Amasiani played the game of his life against Egypt’s Mostafa Abdellatif before emerging victorious with a 7-6(2) 6-7(1) 6-4 final set win before going on the rampage in the second round of the tournament.

The Abuja-based tennis sensation was more emphatic in the second round match against Abed Mohamed Nail from Algeria with a comprehensive 6-2, 6-4 win to move into the quarterfinal of the competition.

To secure his spot in the last four of the tournament, Amasiani defeated Rhazali Kamil, the number six seed from Morocco, 7-5, 7-6(4) in a match which the Nigerian battled his opponent rigorously to win.

The Nigerian teenage wonderkid is the only West African player left in the tournament after his other West African counterparts from Cameroon were defeated in the first and second rounds of the tournament.

He will be in contention for a place in the final when he takes on the number one seed, Bennaceur Leith from Tunisia, on Friday, 21 February, 2025.

Nigerians will be rooting for Amasiani to reach the final and win the Warm up event ahead of the Main AJC event which he qualified for during a well-deserved win at the West & Central Africa qualifying event in Togo a few weeks ago.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep tabs on the activities of the youngster whom many Nigerians say represents the future of tennis in the country.
