Lorelay Holzendorff returned to competitive tennis with an outstanding win at the ongoing Azimuth Shipping Lines Junior Tennis Championship.
The youngster, competing in the girls’ U-16 category, left no stone unturned during her second round match against Zainab Adisa from Ogun State, winning her match in two straight sets. She won 4-0, 4-1.
Holzendorff, moved to the U-16 category from her intended U-14 event, ensured she started with a big win and is now in the quarterfinal of the Azimuth junior tennis event.

Another youngster who shook the courts inside the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, venue of the competition, is Lagos-based Nathaniel Aluko.
Aluko who recently turned 14, was the cynosure of all eyes with his big serves, powerful forehands and unstoppable moves on the court as he won his first ever U-16 match emphatically. He defeated Haruna Sani, another brilliant player, in two straight sets of 4-0, 4-2.
He will now play his second round match against Chinemeren Onuegbu in a bid to reach the R16 of the tournament which has a draw of 64 players.
Abuja-based Sharon Danjuma, another youngster featuring in the U-16, was quite a player to behold when he took on Paul Adebisi.
The 14-year-old charged up the environment with his incessant grunts on the court and rightly won the match 4-1, 4-2 to book a date with Segun Monday from Oyo State, in the second round of the Azimuth Shipping Lines Junior tennis event.

All the age categories will be featuring in Thursday’s round of matches as the competition moves towards the semifinal stage ahead of the finale slated for Saturday, 18 January, 2025.
