The Nigerian contingent to the ITF/CAT West & Central African Junior Tennis Championship Lome, Togo, has won three titles at the event.

Nigeria Tennis Live reports that the players were leading the charge for three Singles titles at the start of Tuesday, 14 January, 2025.

Chukwudubem Amasiani, Khadijat Mohammed and Onyekachi Ogumjiofor were vying the titles in the Boys’ U-14, Girls’ & Boys’ U-16 titles.

While Amasiani and Mohammed triumphed in their matches, Ogumjiofor came short in his match after a very lengthy battle against Nigerian compatriot, Gbolahan Olawale, in the semis.

Amasiani won his Singles match against Mali’s Albechir Diarra, the number two seed, in a fierce contest that showed how much both players wanted the win.

After narrowly losing the first set 4-6, the African number three U-14 player dug deep and deservedly took the second set 6-2 before putting up a huge fight to win the final set 11-9.

In the girls’ U-16 Singles final, Mohammed, the tournament’s top seed, ensured she completed the tournament without dropping a set.

The reigning Dala Hard Court Championship Champion defeated her Cameroonian opponent 7-5, 6-3 to win Nigeria’s second title on the day.

Amasiani would later partner with Seyi Ogunsakin to win the boys’ U-14 Doubles title in another final set tie to bring Nigeria’s title at the event to three already.

The Team event is scheduled to serve off on Wednesday, as the Nigerian team will be looking forward to returning with as many trophies as available.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep tabs on the youngsters making Nigeria proud in Togo, and report all the updates to our teeming audience scattered across the globe.
