Nigeria Tennis Live can report that three Nigerian players will be playing in the finals of the ongoing ITF/CAT West & Central Africa Junior Championship in Togo.

Nine players had made it to the quarterfinals of the event in all four events – boys and girls U-14 & 16, however, at the end of proceedings on Monday, only three of them remained in the competition.

Chukwudubem Amasiani was the first Nigerian player to reach the final, where he will be facing off against the tournament’s number two seed, Albechir Diarra from Mali, after a solid win against another Malian, Karamoko Kante.

A win for Amasiani will consolidate his spot as one of the best young players from Africa and one of the best U-14 players in the world, and qualify Nigeria for the Main AJC event later in the year.

Khadijat Mohammed, the number one seed in the girls’ U-16 event, also continued her winning streak at the event as she reached the final seamlessly.

The Dala Hard Court two-time champion was flawless when she played her semifinal match against Togo’s Winner Gakpo, winning 6-3, 6-0.

As at the time of compiling this report, it could not be ascertained whom the third Nigerian joining the other two was as both Onyekachi Ogumjiofor and Gbolahan Olawale were slugging it out in the boys’ U-16 semifinal match.
