The Azimuth Shipping Lines Junior Tennis Championship is currently underway at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club in Onikan, Lagos Island.
Nigeria Tennis Live reports that the players at the event are from every part of Nigeria, in what is one of the biggest national junior tournaments in the country.
Tournament Director, Mrs. Jumoke Yakubu, informed our correspondent that the count had yet to be concluded but as at Sunday, 12 January, no fewer than 240 players had been confirmed for the event.

This online newspaper also gathered that while most of the players were screened on Sunday afternoon, a number of players are still being expected in Lagos ahead of the tournament’s commencement.
Players are currently in Lagos from Borno, Kebbi, Imo, Rivers, Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Ogun, Osun, Kwara. FCT, Niger, Benue, Nasarawa, among several other States of the federation.
The competition, Nigeria Tennis Live learnt, will be starting with the boys and girls U-12 category on Monday, 13 January, 2025 while the U-14 and U-16 will follow accordingly.
The organizers also informed that the tournament will be run strictly based on ITF rules for participating players, hence the need for pre-tournament registration.

Defending champions in some of the categories will not be around to defend their titles, an indication that there will be a number of first time winners at the event this year.
The Azimuth Shipping Lines Limited, led by Captain Martins Owolabi, has been at the forefront of junior tennis championships for the past seven years, and they give educational grants to the winners and runners-up at the event.
