Nigeria Tennis Live can report that the Azimuth Shipping Lines Junior Tennis Championship will adopt strict ITF rules on its seventh anniversary.

Azimuth Shipping Lines has been at the forefront of sponsoring junior tennis championships in Nigeria for seven years and this year’s edition seems to be taking an interesting twist.

The organizers, in a memo sent to our correspondent, informed that every player who enters to participate in the event should be aware that strict ITF rules will be deployed.

“In entering, and playing the AZIMUTH SHIPPING LINES JUNIOR TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP, the players agrees to be aware of and to abide by the Rules of Tennis as approved by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the ITF Code of Conducts.

“All players MUST come with a photocopy of birth certificates and a copy of the last 2 school report cards. Any player not complying with the age of eligibility outlined will not be able to participate in the competition.

“In addition, any player found to be in breach of this age eligibility rule will be eliminated from the competition,” the memo read in part.

Prospective participants at the tournament are expected to arrive the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, on Saturday, 11 January, 2025 ahead of the screening scheduled for Sunday, 12 January, 2025.

No fewer than 200-250 players are expected from every part of the country in Lagos in what has become one of the most-anticipated national junior tournaments in Nigeria.

Players will be competing in the Boys’ and Girls’ events in the U-12, 14 & 16 categories during the week-long event in Lagos.

Our correspondent also gathered that the screening (which is always strict) will start by 10am on Sunday, 12 January, at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, Race Course, Lagos.
