Chukwudubem Amasiani will be going into the new tennis season as Africa’s number three ranked U-14 player, Nigeria Tennis Live can report.

The Abuja-based tennis sensation nicknamed ‘Alcaraz’ after Spanish tennis player, Carlos Alcaraz, for his abilities on the court, has been on the ascendancy for a while.

According to the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) website, Amasiani, the Nigerian tennis prodigy played nine tournaments to amass 2540 points and sit strongly in third place.

Other Nigerians on the ranking are Seyi Ogunsakin who is ranked 21st while Abdulbasit Salami sits in a distant 55th after playing just two tournaments during the period under review.

In the female category, Goodnews Aina is Nigeria’s highest ranked U-14 player in Africa as she occupies the 17th spot in Africa.

She is closely followed by Lorelay Holzendorff who is 25th while Gloria Samuel, winner of the Girls’ U-14 title at the Adewale Isa Foundation Junior Tennis Championship, is 58th on the log.

Nigeria’s quest to improve on these rankings start this weekend when they travel to Togo for the ITF/CAT West & Central Africa Junior Tennis Championship in Lome, Togo.

Nigerians will be rooting for these youngsters in their quest to bring glory to Nigeria and Nigeria Tennis Live will keep our readers updated on the latest from Togo.

In a related development, Seun Ogunsakin is also starting the new tennis season as the world 183rd ranked junior player in the world.

The Tunisia-based Nigerian youngster won five tournaments (three on hard courts two on clay) in 2024 to reach a career-high ranking of 266 in September.

However, as the new rankings are updated and some of the ineligible players taken out of the rankings, the Ekiti-born tennis sensation moved upwards on the rankings.

He not only broke the 200-mark, he went a step further to reclaim his spot as Nigeria’s top player on the junior ITF rankings, and number 12 in Africa.
