Nigeria’s talented tennis youngster, Mubarak Ganiyu, is seeking a consecutive appearance at the final of the Junior ITF tournament for the first time ever.

The Ibadan-born tennis sensation reached the final of the J30 Lome event in Togo last week, where he lost to Ahmed Darmoul from Tunisia.

He is now in the semifinal of the J60 event where he will be playing against the tournament’s number two seed, Botswana’s Ntungamili Raguin, for a spot in the final.

A win for the Abuja-based junior tennis player will see him face wither Francky Martial or Darmoul, both of whom are formidable opponents and will test the resolve of the Nigerian player should he pull through his semis match.

In the Doubles event, Ganiyu will pair Lucky Danjuma to play against Ghana’s Hanif Boateng and Jesse Frank Abu from Great Britain, in the Boys’ Doubles final.

The Nigerian boys will be hoping to return home with a winners’ trophy after a week of intense competition in the neighbouring West African country.

Also, Ohunene Yakubu and her partner from Tunisia, Iris Hergli, got the better of Etoro Bassey and Cameroon’s Serene Orphelia Nguimbis Ntove in what was an intense Girls’ Doubles semifinal match on Thursday.

Yakubu and Hergli will seek to consolidate on their efforts when they take on Great Britain’s Grace Chinwike and Lamiss Houas from Tunisia, in what promises to be a thrilling finale.
