No fewer than three Nigerian players have advanced to the quarterfinals and are looking forward to the semis of the ongoing J60 Lome tournament in Togo.

The Nigerian players, many of whom are in the second week of the event, have played their ways into the quarterfinal of the event, where they seek semifinal berths.

Ohunene Yakubu, the girls’ number two seed, made a statement with her 6-0, 6-0 win over Togo’s Madje Bernice Tossoukpe just as Etoro Bassey strolled over Mahugnon Eliaza Honfoga, with a 6-1, 6-4 win while red-hot Success Ogunjobi crushed Alaodahlia IYamonsola Fiona, another Beninoise, 6-1, 6-1.

The Nigerian girls are now targeting semifinal spots after their impressive second round wins at the competition featuring some of the best young tennis talents around.

In the boys’ draw, Mubarak Ganiyu, last week’s J30 Lome finalist, played his way into the second round of the event after taking apart Antoine Baudot from France with a 6-2, 6-2 win. Lucky Danjuma, seeded five for the event, needed a final set win to get the better of Ghana’s Hanif Boateng.

After winning the first set 7-5, Danjuma succumbed the second set to his rampaging opponent 5-7 before taking the final set 6-3 to wrap up what was an intense and interesting game on Tuesday.

Ayomiposi Agboola, who reached the main draw of the event through the qualifying rounds, made a little matter of his match against Tchegoun DeRosa from USA, who got a Wild Card, as he won 7-5, 6-3.

Nigerians will be looking forward to all the results from the players’ matches as they progress in Togo and Nigeria Tennis Live will keep our readers posted on updates from the event.
