    FASU Games: BIU, Nile Uni Face Off As Ghana Varsities Clash In Lagos

    BIU and Nile University students will have the final say on which Nigerian university makes it to the final of the women’s tennis event at the ongoing FASU Games in Lagos.

    The tennis event of the 11th All-African University Games (FASU) served off on Monday, 23 September, 2024, and the players already distinguished themselves in different categories.

    The 10-day event which being co-hosted by the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and the Lagos State University (LASU) is featuring tennis among other sports at the competition.

    And according to the draws made available to Nigeria Tennis Live, UNILAG’s Marvis Abamu is the number one seed in the Women’s Singles event while Destiny Okhinaye of BIU is the other top player.

    Players from Ghana, Zambia as well as from other parts of Nigeria like Abuja and Lokoja are also participating in the Women’s Singles event.

    In the Men’s Singles, only a few players (seven) registered for the tennis event. The players are from Nigeria – Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), UNILAG, Ghana, and Egypt.

    To determine who reaches the final on Tuesday, Okhinaye will face-off against Omolayo Bamidele in a mouthwatering encounter inside the tennis section of UNILAG Sports Centre.

    The winner will take on either Tracy Ampah or Lawrei Uia Onome both from Ghana, to set up an unprecedented clash between two rival nations yet again.

    In the Men’s event, the representative of Nigerian Universities were not so lucky, but did enough to reach the semis of the event.

    Kareem Akande from UNILAG reached the semis after bageling his FUPRE opponent and has now set up a clash against Ghana for a place in the final while the second Men’s Singles semis will be between Ghana and Egypt.
