Mary Udoffa, one of Nigeria’s tough junior players, has joined Etoro Bassey in the semifinals of the ongoing Zenith Bank Next Generation Masters event.

The youngster who has been a consistent force in tournaments across Nigeria will play against Success Ogunjobi, the fierce player from Ekiti State.

Udoffa will be guaranteed a place in the final if she is able to overcome the powerful Abuja-based youngster when the pair take to the court on Saturday, 10 August, 2024, for the semis of the Zenith Bank Next Gen Masters event.

In the other match, GEUF Tennis Academy’s Bassey will come up against Gloria Samuel, another Ekiti-born player, for a place in the finals of the event which she is heavily tipped to win.

Samuel will, however, pose a threat to the Akwa-Ibom based tennis sensation on her way to reaching the final as she would also fancy her chances of making the podium.

In the boys’ event, Joseph Jimoh and Basit Ajao are joined in the semis by Thankgod Adakole and Ondo State’s Henry Aina who has been enterprising all week.

Aina defeated budding tennis talent, Chukwudubem Amasiani 7-10, 12-10, 10-8, in a keenly contested encounter to secure his place in the semifinals of the five-day event.

Adakole, on the other hand, will take advantage of his resurgence against the big boys when he gets the chance in the semifinal off the competition.

    Duby Disappointed

The talent discovery tournament which served off on Wednesday, 7 August, 2024, will reach its climax on Sunday, 11 August, inside the tennis section of Ikoyi Club 1938, Lagos.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep all our readers posted on the updates from the competition as it progresses through to the grand finale.
