The Nigerian female tennis team will start their 2024 Billie Jean King Cup Africa Group III qualifier with an opening match against Uganda.

The quartet of Oyinlomo Quadre, Toyin Asogba, Divine Nweke and Adesuwa Osabuohien are Nigeria’s representatives at the competition which serves off on Monday, 10 June, 2024.

The draws, as Nigeria Tennis Live gathered, have now pitted them against Uganda, Ghana and Botswana in Group C.

South Africa, Zimbabwe, Madagascar and Namibia occupy Group A while Tunisia, Kenya, Mauritius and Burundi in Group B make up the third pool for the teams in Nairobi.

Nigeria, ranked 93rd in the world, are only bested in the tournament by South Africa (85) and Tunisia (89), and are deservedly the third seed of the competition, hence the draw having them in Group C.

According to the order of play obtained by Nigeria Tennis Live, Nigeria will be playing the first match on court 6 against the Ugandan ladies at about 10.00am (8am Nigerian time).

As at the time of filing this report, it was not certain yet, which player will be starting, however, feelers from Kenya have it that Quadre and Nweke may be in contention to play the two Singles matches.

Our correspondent also gathered that only one team will qualify for the World Group II while one other team will be relegated.

After the round robin games which will end on Wednesday, the three group winners will play against each other while the second and third teams will play for position. The fourth team in each group will then play one another to avoid relegation.
