Nigerian youngster, Joel Michael, will soon be on his way to the United States for a four-month long training after winning the Alhaji Adewale Isa Memorial Tournament in Lagos.

Nigeria Tennis Live gathered that Michael who defeated Peter Ubiebi 4-2, 5-3 in the boys’ U-12 final at the 2023 edition of the annual competition, will be traveling to the Impact Activities Training Centre in McKinney, Texas.

Nurudeen Isa, one of the Directors at the facility and one of the children of the late Alhaji Isa Adewale, informed our correspondent that one of the perks of winning the U-12 category of the competition is an all-expense paid trip to the United States for training.

According to him, the winners in the boys’ and girls’ events are beneficiaries of this gesture by the Academy to help groom them to become even bigger winners in the nearest future, however, the organizers are experimenting with the boys’ winner first.

“They will be leaving Nigeria on May 26th to September 23rd. Joel won the tournament in 2023, but it was difficult to get him a visa before now, that’s why it is just happening.

“This gesture is not limited to the boys’ winner, actually, the girls’ winner is also a beneficiary of this, however, we are experimenting with the boys’ winner first.

“You know, there are a number of things involved and we need to be sure how these things work properly before we can say for sure that we are able to bring the boys’ and girls’ winners to the US,” Mr. Isa told Nigeria Tennis Live.

Young Michael has been one of the more consistent junior players for the Nigerian national team, representing the country at international tournaments.

His exposure to bigger facilities will definitely aid his tennis development and further expose him to better ways of playing the game.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep tabs on the activities of the youngster in the United States as the organizers look forward to the next edition of their tournament.

A commendable gesture by the Isa’ s family for the development of tennis both in Nigeria and globally.

I wish the family an outstanding success in all its endeavours.
