In the last week, Nigerian tennis players, including Serena Teluwo, were firing on all cylinders across the globe yet again, and gave Nigerians a lot to cheer about.

From Nigeria to other African countries, to Europe and the United States, there was no shortage of high voltage performance by Nigerian players.

    Serena Teluwo
Nigeria’s Serena Teluwo was extremely outstanding for the Shaw University female tennis team and deservedly won the Rookie of the year award for her performances.

The talented Nigerian youngster who made the switch to the American university barely a year ago, was in an unstoppable form for her team and was adjudged the Freshman of the year.

And like Oyinlomo Quadre, her school also won the CIAA Conference Championship for a record sixth time, and in amazing fashion.

Apart from winning the Rookie Player of the year award, the former Nigerian junior international was also rewarded for her academic excellence during the awards event.

The Psychology Major ended the academic session with a 4.0 CGPA, an indication that she has been paying as much attention to her academics as she has been to her tennis.

    Christopher Bulus
While Serena was celebrating her amazing feat with her colleagues in school, Nigeria’s only ATP player, Christopher Bulus, was in Serbia, putting in the work.

Bulus played the Doubles final at the M15 Kursumlijsaka Banja event in Serbia as part of his eight-week Euro tour, where he is expected to pick valuable ATP points and grow his ranking.

The Nigerian star player who reached the quarterfinal of a star-studded African Games in Ghana, is one of the players expected to lead Nigeria to glory when she hosts the Davis Cup tennis event in July.

Bulus is still in Europe, where he is playing a number of competitions before returning to his base in the United States.

    Chukwudubem and Chukwubuikem Amasiani
The Amasiani brothers were the center of attention when the monthly Abuja Tennis Tournament made a remarkable return to the Federal Capital.

Chukwubuikem and Chukwudubem won in their respective categories in keenly contested round robin matches at the national Stadium in Abuja, venue of the competition.

Chukwudubem defeated a really tough and talented player, Marvelous Bolarinwa – winner of the TPPA Regional Championship – win the Boys’ U-16 event while Chukwubuikem was the U-12 champion at the event.

Recall that the elder Amasiani shot into the spotlight courtesy of this monthly tennis competition in Abuja. If this competition continues, there’s no telling the number of talents that it will unearth from Nigeria’s federal capital.

    Daniel Adeleye
Meanwhile, in Abidjan, Daniel Adeleye ended a very eventful four-week junior ITF tennis competition with some brilliant results and trophies.

The highest-ranked Nigerian junior on the ITF rankings, won two legs of the J30 Accra event in Ghana before traveling to Ivory Coast to emerge runner up in the J30 and J60 Abidjan events.

    Daniel Adeleye

He capped a fine four-week trip by also winning three doubles events and emerging runner-up in the fourth event.

All eyes will now be on Adeleye to keep up the steam in his quest to become one of the top junior players to come out of the African continent.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep all our readers updated on tournaments and achievements of the players as the weeks roll by.
