    Adesuwa Admits ‘Good’ Pressure Ahead Of The African Games

    Adesuwa Osabuohien, one of the players expected to represent Nigeria at the 13 All African Games has admitted to being under ‘good’ pressure.

    The US-based tennis star who captained the Nigerian Billie Jean King Cup team to Kenya in 2023, is currently in the country preparing for the Games holding in Accra, Ghana.

    She told Nigeria Tennis Live that she is gradually adjusting to the weather in the country but that she is ready and cannot wait to get to Ghana.

    The WTA 1252nd ranked player noted that returning home to prepare for the Games is like a breath of fresh air and that she is relishing the opportunity to compete.

    “About the All African Games, I’m so excited and it’s another great opportunity and I’m ready to go far. Last time, we got bronze so we need to do way better and go for gold,” she told Nigeria Tennis Live.

    About Nigeria’s chances going into the game, Osabuohien who won Nigeria’s first ever game at the Billie Jean King Cup noted that Nigeria won’t be among the also-rans.

    She said: “Our chances are very high. We have a strong thing, most likely the same team for the Billie Jean Cup, so, we’ve all been training, talking from our different training zones.

    “And we’re very excited to put in the work to bring back the gold to Nigeria”.

    Asked how fit she is ahead of the championship, she noted that “I’m as fit as I can be right now, mentally, it’s there. I’m very excited, I’ve been thinking about this moment for a while, so…

    “I’m keeping myself sane, at the same time, it is a lot of pressure, good enough pressure. But you know, diamonds can’t form without pressure, so, hopefully we break through”.

    Nigeria’s tennis team is expected to depart the country for Ghana on Monday, 11 March ahead of the tennis event which serves off on 16 March, 2024.
