The Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) has announced a 50% slash in registration fee for Nigerian players participating in the J30 Abuja event.

According to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) guidelines, players registering to participate in Junior ITF events are required to pay $55 via their I-PIN.

But in a swift move to ease the registration pressure on the players playing in the J30 Abuja event, the NTF has decided to give the players a 50% discount on their registration.

This slash in registration fee was confirmed to Nigeria Tennis Live in Abuja by Makpa Aliyu, the Secretary of the NTF.

He informed our correspondent that the decision to slash the registration fee for the Nigerian players was reached to give more players the opportunity to participate in the event.

According to him: “The federation considered the current economic challenge in the country, and thought the best way to ease pressure on the players is by slashing the registration fee for the Nigerian players.

“It’s enough that there is hike in transportation and other expenses for the players to participate in this event, so, we wanted to make things easier for the participating players from Nigeria.”

Nigeria Tennis Live also gathered authoritatively that players who already paid the designated amount for the registration will get a refund from the federation.

Players from different parts of the world are already arriving Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital for the two-week event which serves off on Wednesday, 14 February, 2024.

As at Sunday morning, players from China, Taiwan had arrived for the event while Australia and Morocco would be on their way any moment. Players from Namibia, among others, are also being expected.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep our readers up to date with all the details from the two-week competition in Nigeria’s Federal Capital.
