Engr. Ifedayo Akindoju, the president of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), has revealed the players likely to represent Nigeria at the tennis event of the All African Games scheduled to hold in Ghana.

In a brief chat with Nigeria Tennis Live from Tunisia, where he is currently attending a meeting of Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) Officials, he noted that the list of the players to prosecute the competition has already been forwarded to the Sports Ministry.

Akindoju stated, however, that even though he cannot categorically state which players will eventually make the cut, the majority of the players who represented Nigeria at the Billie Jean King Cup and Davis Cup in 2023 will be representing the country in Ghana.

“The same set of players, just like we went for the Billie Jean King Cup and Davis Cup, will be playing the African Games.

“At the moment, I cannot confirm the exact names, if there will be any addition or subtraction, however, rest assured that the bulk of players who played both competitions will be representing Nigeria in Ghana,” he told Nigeria Tennis Live.

For the Billie Jean King Cup, US-based Oyinlomo Quadre, Marylove Edwards, Adesuwa Osabuohien, Divine Nweke and Sarah Adegoke were in Kigali, Rwanda for the competition, while Christopher Bulus, David Ekpenyong, Wilson Igbinovia, Peter Lawal and Uche Oparaoji prosecuted the Davis Cup in Kenya.

As at the time of filing this report, however, feelers have it that Abuja-based Lawal may not be available to represent Nigeria at the event as he may have traveled outside the country.

The 13th All Africa Games is scheduled to kick off on 8 March, 2024, but the tennis event will serve off on Saturday, 16 March, and end on Friday, 23 March, 2024 inside the Borteyman Tennis Complex, Ghana.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep tabs on the details ahead of the African Games and update all our readers and followers scattered across the globe.
