Chukwudubem Amasiani and his brother, Chukwubuikem Amasiani have reached the finals of the Azimuth Shipping Lines Junior Tennis Championship in Lagos.

The Abuja- based youngsters are in the final of two different categories of the week-long event, having overcome difficult opponents.

Dubem, the elder of the brothers, moved to the U-14 category after winning the U-12 in 2023, and breezed into the finals just as his younger sibling, ‘Ikem made it to the finals of the U-12 finals.

The Amasiani brothers will now have to contend against Seyi Ogunsakin and Samuel Ndem in the Boys U-14 and U-12 finals respectively, in encounters that spectators are keenly anticipating.

In the Girls U-14, Gloria Samuel will be on the hot seat when she takes on 2023 U-12 winner, Emmanuella Kwange, in a top of the table clash, while Mofifunoluwa Atilola will battle Joy Emmanuel for the Girls U-12 title.

Jade Nzewi had a tough match against Kehinde before coming out tops on Friday afternoon.

Bright Emmanuel of the Apapa Tennis Club will battle Aina Goodnews for the Girls U-16 title in a battle of wits and perseverance.

France-based Jade Nzewi who is yet to drop a set in this competition will be hoping there will be little trouble when he takes on David Edwards in the Boys U-16 final.

Nzewi had not had so much to deal with at the championship until he played in the semis against Lagos boy, Lawal Kehinde.

The match ended in two sets in favour of the former but he was made to fight for every point as his opponent, buoyed by the immense home support, found courage to go all the way.

He will now face Edwards, the younger brother of Nigeria’s number one female tennis player, Marylove, in what promises to be a befitting end to the weeklong Azimuth Junior tennis competition in Lagos.

Matches are expected to start by 11am on Saturday, 20 January, as the tournament which gives Education Grants to players from the quarterfinals, reaches its climax in Lagos.
