Nigeria’s highest ranked junior tennis player on the ITF Circuit, Wilson Igbinovia, has landed in the quarterfinal of the Dala Hard Court tournament in Kano.

The 18-year-old teenager who seems to be on the ascendancy in his tennis career, has been in blistering form for months now, is a favourite to reach the final of the competition.

In one of the second round matches played on Wednesday, 3 November, 2021, Igbinovia beat Usman Kushimo in two quick sets of 6-4, 6-2 to land in the quarter final of the event.

But the stiffest test will come when the youngster comes up against former Dala Championship winner and former number one, Thomas Otu.

Igbinovia will have to get past Otu before making an appearance at the semis of the Kano event and stand a chance of making it to the final.

Joseph Imeh, current champion and arguably the most in-form Nigerian player at the moment, also secured a quarterfinal berth by defeating Endurance Ehigiamusoe, 6-1, 2-0 (rtd).

He will now face former national champion, Henry Atseye, in a bid to avenge his defeat at the Rainoil Tennis Competition in Lagos a few years ago.

Marylove Edwards and Aanu Aiyegbusi, the two favorites and top seeds in the Women’s Singles, are doing a great job consolidating on their spots as the top players in the tournament.

Edwards was the better player when she came up against Adunoye Rachael. The youngster won 6-4, 6-2 to qualify for the semis of the competition while Aiyegbusi was no match for Blessing Omotayo. She win 6-2, 6-1.

Thursday will be a titanic battle between the players as the Women’s Singles event will be getting the likely winners while Men’s Singles event will have semis qualifiers.

Nigeria Tennis Live will continue with the same daily update from the tournament and report all the details to our teeming audience scattered across the globe.
