Nigeria’s Christopher Bulus may have lost his first ever Challenger match against Australia’s Dayne Kelly, but he quite enjoyed himself on the court.

Kelly, ranked 463 on the ATP rankings, defeated the former New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) student in two sets with a 6-3, 6-2 win, but it was not a stroll in the park.

The Nigerian who was playing his first match on the ATP Tour in 49 months, showed no sign of rustiness, rather, he took the game to his opponent.

Stats after the match showed that the Australian player was prone to defaulting when he’s serving. He made three double faults mistakes and had a lower percentage of ‘first serves in’ in comparison with his Nigerian opponent.

Stats showed that Bulus was not a push over against the Australian in his first ever Challenger match. Stats Credit: Google.

Asked how he felt after the game and with such stats against a very formidable opponent, Bulus said: “I mean… I just put the serve in haha but I’m sure that helped during the match.”

He also acknowledged that he didn’t play so much at his former school, as against how he’s now playing since he’ll soon become a graduate.

“I’m playing okay to be honest…. didn’t play much at new mexico but starting to play again as I’m about to graduate soon,” the former Aces Academy starlet explained.

On how much having good serves means to him, he quickly chipped in the fact that there’s “No free points” while also hailing the coaches in his school.

“The coach is supportive and he knows his job haha,” the ever smiling Bulus added, as he shed more light on his immediate plans.

The number one player at the institution in Nevada noted that he has a couple of tournaments in December “but not itf or Challenger.

“You definitely need points to get in Challengers. I got WC because this is hosted at my school.”

After the game, those who followed hailed for his performance and tipped him to become a really great player in the nearest future.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep monitoring the activities of the talented player and share updates from his performances with our audience scattered across the globe.
