Engr. Ifedayo Akindoju, the President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), has confirmed the postponement of the 3rd VEMP National Senior Open Tennis Championship.

The competition initially scheduled for 23 September to 2 October, 2021, has now been rescheduled following a new development.

Players preparing for the competition will now have more time to firm up their plans and conclude preparations ahead of the annual competition which didn’t hold in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a statement signed by Joel Akinluwa, the Assistant Secretary of the NTF, on behalf of the NTF Secretary, noted that the postponement is necessitated following the planned hosting of the National Youth Games.

The Youth Games which also involves junior tennis players, will hold from 9-19 October, in Ilorin, Kwara State, and will be featuring players from other parts of the country.

Nigeria Tennis Live also gathered from the memo made available to our correspondent, that entry deadline has now been moved to Wednesday, 20 October, while arrival is now pegged at Thursday, 21 October.

The competition, which is in its third year, will now hold from Friday (for the qualifiers) 22 and run till Saturday, 30 October.

As initially planned, the tournament will hold at the Tennis Centre of the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

Former Nigerian number one, Sylvester Emmanuel, was the winner of the last edition in 2019 while female sensation, Oyinlomo Quadre, clinched the title in the women’s category.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep monitoring situations ahead of the competition and report to our teeming audience scattered across the globe.

Below is the statement issued by the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) and signed by the Assistant Secretary on behalf of the Secretary General of the Federation:
