    CBN Open: Quadre Battles Serena In Opener, Harps On Title Defense

    Oyinlomo Quadre will be playing an emotional match on Monday, 9 November, when hostilities serve off at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Open, Nigeria Tennis Live has gathered.

    She will be playing against training partner and friend, Serena Teluwo, in the opening fixture of the 43rd CBN Open.

    And even though the draw pits them together, there will be no love lost when both players square up against each other.

    In a brief chat with Nigeria Tennis Live, Quadre expressed excitement about the prospects of getting back to competitive tennis action.

    When asked what the mood was in Abuja, she noted with excitement, that: “I can say excitement!!!

    “Everyone is clearly excited and looking forward to their matches tomorrow (Monday). It’s a rare sight but a very nice one.”

    The African number two junior tennis star was also asked about her title defense, if she was willing to relinquish the title to someone else.

    She said: “Hahaha definitely not, I have no plans of doing that.”

    About being nervous ahead of the tournament, the Dala Hard Court winner stated clearly: “Hahaha I am not.

    “I see this tournament like every tournament. I have to give my best because I know anyone who plays me will surely give their best.”

    Serena, a Wild Card entrant, will also fancy her chances against her practice partner and friend.

    In other matches, the Yakubu sisters will be up against top national players. While Oiza will be battling Aanu Aiyegbusi, Nene will have a field day against Port Harcourt based Donatus Loveth.

    Also, Kogi-born Mary Udoffa will be slugging it out against Omolayo Bamidele in the opening round.
