Lagos-based Gabriel Inyang proved to be a handful for his opponent at the opening match in the qualifying round of the ongoing Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Open.

The youngster was a thorn in the flesh of his opponent, Sodiq Muhammad, defeating him in a quick fire game.

As expected, the VGC club player, Inyang, started the game the much stronger player, hitting winners in quick succession with his opponent making unforced errors as well.

With a few ground strokes and his deadly forehand, the ebony player from Lagos won the first set 4-1 to the admiration of the few players who watched the qualifying match.

No sooner had they started the second set than Muhammad hit the rock in his quest to best Inyang.

Inyang won the first game and his opponent was forced to retire before the second game in the second set much to the relief of the youngster who was still ready to pounce.

He now has two matches to go before standing a chance in the Main Draw of the Men’s Singles which is the real deal of the competition.

Nigeria Tennis Live gathered that the youngster will now have to wait for his opponent as the other match on the draw is yet to be played.

Having previously played and won junior tournaments in the United States, eyes will be on the youngster in Abuja.

Action resumes in the preliminary round of the CBN Open tomorrow, as the battle for Main Draw continues.

Nigeria Tennis Live will continue with the update of our followers on the latest information from Abuja, venue of the 42nd edition of the CBN Open.
