Marylove Edwards has been encouraged to rest and prepare for the 2020 tennis season, after a really eventful year which also saw her return to the national scene for the first time in years.

The youngster played two finals of a Grade 5 ITF competition and won her first ever Junior ITF title in Abuja, losing only in the final to Oyinlomo Quadre.

Edwards had also played in other Junior ITF competitions across Africa in the course of the year, and was a delight in some of those matches as she showed flashes of her ingenious tennis skills.

But after returning home, to play in the national competition, and losing out, she is advised to now rest, relax and prepare to come back even stronger in the new year.

Koye Sowemimo, the Director of Sports at the Temple Management Company, tweeted, after the youngster’s loss to defending champion, Blessing Samuel, that it’s now time to prepare for the new tennis season.

He tweeted: “Final set ended 3-6, as @marylovechamp lost to the defending champion.

“Now it’s time to relax for rest of the year with light training and kick start 2020 with a bang.”

Nigeria Tennis Live had reported that the US-based junior tennis prodigy is set to kick start her new year with a two-week tournament in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.

And this, our correspondent gathered, is an upgrade from the Grade 5 competitions she has played in recent weeks. She will be playing a Grade 4 tournament.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep up with the youngster and continue reporting her progress as she continues with her tennis development.
