The date for this year’s NCC Tennis League may not have been announced yet, but the tournament has already started gathering steam from participating teams. One of such teams is Team Offikwu.
In 2016, the Kaduna-based team rose from nowhere to surprise the bookmakers and clinch the title, all thanks to the amazing talent of their star player, Sylvester Emmanuel.
During that year’s edition of the competition, they were referred to as the comeback kids and they proved this even until the last game of the competition, but they have since dropped in their ratings.
In a recent chat with Nigeria Tennis Live, however, the team’s owner and sponsor, Innocent Offikwu, revealed to our correspondent that the team will return with a bang.
He insisted that more than ever before, Team Offikwu is prepared for the new tennis league season and will ensure they come out tops at the end of the competition.
“For this year’s NCC League, we are coming out stronger than ever,” he started.
“We are planning a few changes but nothing has been confirmed just yet. However, I can assure you that we have two strong players in Major (Sylvester Emmanuel) and Christian Paul.
“This new season, Team Offikwu will bounce back from the defeats of previous years and I strongly believe that we can become the first team to win the tournament twice since its inception,” he further explained.
Nigeria Tennis Live will keep tabs on the players, coaches and the organizers in the build up to the competition whose commencement date is yet to be made public.
