The Nigerian trio of Oyinlomo Quadri, Abayomi Phillips and Matthew Abamu are presently gunning for quarter final slots at the ongoing ITF U-18 Junior Circuit in Lome, Togo, Nigerian Tennis Live checks have revealed.

Oyinlomo, who had won the Ghana leg of the World Junior Circuit could not sustain the momentum in the first leg in Togo, as she succumbed to a two set defeat in the hands of her doubles partner, Yasmin Ezzat.

Though disappointed by the loss, the Nigerian youngster vowed to bounce back in the second leg of the Togo event and she has defeated Patricia Nguemo, her opponent from Cameroon in two straight sets of 6-0, 6-0, to set up a third round clash against unseeded Ruju Chauhan from India.

According to Nigerian Tennis Live‘s further checks on the boys category, Matthew Abamu was the biggest winner of the lot, as he upset Johnson Acquah, the Ghanaian number 12 seed in two tight sets of 7-6 (2), 7-5 to set up a meeting with Vence N’tcha from Benin Republic.

Nigeria’s Oyinlomo Quadri will fancy her chances in the third round of the Singles event.

Abamu will hope to get better than his previous performances in the competition as he will seek to send N’tcha packing with impressive displays on the court.

Abayomi Phillips who is the only seeded Nigerian player in the boys’ event, will need to scale the hurdle of the tournament’s number three player, Aaryan Zaveri to qualify for the quarter final stage of the competition.

Since his Doubles win at the Ghana leg of the world Junior Circuit, Phillips has not been able to catch up in the competition; whether in the Singles or the team event. But after making it to the third round by the whiskers, he will have to dig deep to find answers to the questions Zaveri will be asking on court when they meet.

The three Nigerian players will be in action on Wednesday, 12 September, and will be seeking to make the country proud in neighbouring Togo.

Nigerian Tennis Live will also keep tabs with the performances of the players and report to our teeming audience as the tournament progresses!
