Scoops by Nigerian Tennis Live have revealed that young Nigerian tennis prodigy, Christopher Bulus, may storm Nigeria for the 40th edition of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Open before hostilities begin on 21 June.

Reports say the youngster is one of the junior superstars expected to prosecute Nigeria’s tennis event at the African Youth Games in Algiers, Algeria in July, but may soon be in camp alongside his colleagues in Lagos, where they prepare for the event.

US-based Bulus may soon storm Nigeria for the annual CBN Senior Tennis Open.

But the quarterfinalist at the 2017 edition of the annual tournament, is likely to use the opportunity to stake a claim on the trophy which has eluded many Nigerian youngsters in the recent past.

Recall that Bulus, a student of New Mexico Military Institute, was instrumental to his school’s jinx-breaking feat early this year, when he led them to a regional win for the first time in 28 years, qualifying for the nationals in the process.

Asked if he would be in the country for the CBN Open, Bulus said to our correspondent: “Hopefully, I will love to play if everything goes well.”

One of his former coaches, Ismaila Sikiru, who was assisting Coach Abel Ubiebi at the ACES Tennis Academy, also expressed excitement at the prospect of having the US-based player participate in the event.

“You know, Bulus is a really good player and having worked with him, seeing him grow this way just gives me joy.

“He’s one of those players I always knew was going to do well and I am happy to have been part of his success story till date.

“Hopefully, he can get to play a huge role at the CBN Open and possibly get a chance to win it if he continues playing at his best level,” an elated Sikiru told Nigerian Tennis Live.

With some of Nigeria’s top players likely to be in Davis Cup action the same period this tournament will take place, there are chances that the youngsters will step up their game and seize the opportunity to shock their more experienced opponents.

Nigerian Tennis Live will continue a countdown to the competition which is set to open a floodgate of tournaments for the remaining part of the year.
