Nigerian players in the main draw of the Men’s Singles event at the ongoing Tombim ITF Futures in Abuja will have to be at their very best to be able to progress beyond the first round of matches following the tough players they are competing against in the Tuesday draws of the tournament.

Joseph Imeh, Sylvester Emmanuel, Emmanuel Audu and Michael Michael are the only Nigerians in the Main Draw, with only Michael getting a wild card to compete while the rest had to go through qualifying series.

Sylvester is up against the tournament’s number six seed. Can he do the impossible?

Imeh and Sylvester who already have a place in the quarter finals of the Doubles event, will have to defeat Stephan Gerritsen and Rinnie Schneider (no 6 seed) respectively to stand a chance in the second round of the tournament.

Audu, who plays the first match today, will also have to be firm against Remi Boutillier as Michael faces an uphill task against Jaimee Floyd Angele to justify the wild card given to him by the organisers of the competition.

In other matches, Emmanuel Idoko and Christian Paul will rely on home support and their ingenuity to see off second seed in the Doubles, Markus Eriksson and Maximilian Neuchrist.
