2018 CBN Open: Babalola, Adegoke Battle To Defend Titles As Fireworks Begin In Abuja

The duo of Adulmumin Babalola and Sarah Adegoke will be left with the daunting task of defending the Men and Women Singles titles they won at the 2017 CBN Senior Tennis Open Championship when the 2018 edition of the tournament kicks off Monday, 25 June.

The 40th edition of the annual tennis championship which is taking place at the Package B of the National Stadium, Abuja, is the first national tournament that the players will be playing in 2018, and most of them are relishing the prospects of cashing home the winners’ medal and prize money.

In the fixtures made available to Nigerian Tennis Live, Babalola who just returned from Kenya where he represented Team Nigeria at the Davis Cup tennis tournament, will kick start his title defence when he comes up against John Henry in the first round of matches.

The man fondly called Monaco will be in action at the CBN Open in Abuja.

Other fixtures will see Nigeria’s number one ranked player, Joseph Imeh, take on Taiwo Owolabi, Christian Paul takes on Amos Michael, Sylvester Emmanuel will play against Isaac Attah, while former winner, Henry Atseye battles Benjamin Chinwendu.

In the female category, Adegoke, winner of the 2017 Rainoil tennis tournament, will also seek to continue her dominance of female tennis in Nigeria when she takes on Afolarin Akosile in one of the opening matches of the day.

Agugbom Christie, another former champion of the CBN Open, will take to the court to the court against Favour Moses, Ronke Akingbade, who is also a one time winner of the tournament, has a date with Temitope Fashanu, just as Blessing Samuel tackles Omotayo Osewa and Aanu Aiyegbusi battles Oluchi Ozurumba.

In all, many top Nigerian players who have been out of competition for a while, will be at the CBN Open in Abuja to compete again and meet with old friends.
