In a bid to leave Tunisia with her pride sky high, Nigeria is set to crush the players from Kenya following Oyinlomo Quadri’s fairytale win over her opponents at the ongoing World Junior Tennis Championship.

Quadri had over the past few days, struggled to Nigeria’s hopes alive in the tournament by ensuring that she won her matches even though the team did not succeed in defeating their opponents at the end of the day.

Quadri and her partner at the championship, MaryLove, will have benefitted from the experience of playing at the championship.

In Nigeria’s encounter against host Tunisia, MaryLove Edwards – who has not been able to re-enact her pre-tournament form at the championship – could not pick up her first win in as many games, as she lost 2-6, 2-6 to Jeribi Ghaida.

But Quadri would not take any of that as she stormed to another hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 victory over Ben Hassan Feryel, also from Tunisia, before the Nigerians could not withstand the firepower of the Tunisians in the doubles, bowing to a 4-6, 6-2, 4-10 loss.

Nigeria will now face Kenya in the final game of the tournament to at least, salvage a win from all the matches played and leave Tunisia with a level of pride.

Coach Abel Ubiebi, the team’s coordinator in Tunisia, told Naija Tennis Special that the exposure from the tournament will make the players better, eventhough they could not totally achieve their aims of qualifying for the next phase of the tournament.

“I believe the next time we come here for this tournament, Nigeria will perform better than this. The exposure is invaluable and the experience is something the players will relish for years to come,” he told our correspondent.
