Facts have emerged on how Dayo Akindoju, the sponsor of Dayak Tennis Open emerged as the president of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) in an epic victory during the election held at Nigeria’s federal capital on Tuesday, June 13.

Akindoju, who looked like an ‘outsider’ to emerge winner of the for the post of the NTF president, defeated the former vice president in a landslide victory after the disqualification of Godwin Kienka from contesting the election.

Akindoju defeated Owoseni in a landslide victory after Kienka was disqualified from voting.

Sources from Abuja, where the election took place, told our correspondent that Kienka – a very strong contender for the post – was disqualified and the election was simply between Akindoju and Owoseni.

“And Akindoju rightly won by a landslide!”

“He polled 39 to Owoseni’s 11 votes. It was a massive win for the Abuja man and not many believed it would have happened that way, although some of us really wanted him to win because of his passion for tennis and the steps he has taken in recent years,” the impeccable source revealed.

Efforts to reach Akindoju for his comments after emerging victorious proved futile as calls put through to him were not picked.

Meanwhile, when our correspondent called Mr. Owoseni on Tuesday evening to get his reaction to the conduct of the election, he simply said: “I cannot talk right now because I am busy. We’ll have to talk tomorrow.”

Naija Tennis Special will try to bring you an exclusive interview with Akindoju after his emergence as the NTF president.
