Tombim Abuja Open: Home-sick Michael Moses Says He Could Have Fared Better

Nigeria’s number one male tennis player, Michael Moses, has revealed in an exclusive chat with Naija Tennis Special that he misses playing the Tombim Abuja Open.

Moses who is presently studying at the University of Louisiana in the United States where he is also playing tennis, stated that he misses the tournament a lot and would probably have fared better based on his current form.

Michael Moses misses his Abuja folks and the Tombim Abuja Open so much.

At the first edition of the championship, Moses was the only Nigerian player to make it to the quarter-final stage of the competition, barely months after winning the abridged version of the Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship.

He has since grown to be a more mature player, winning the inaugural NCC Tennis League with Team Tombim, before losing out in the finals of the second edition to Team Offikwu.

Moses believes that with his present training techniques in the United States, he is getting better and would have performed better if he were to participate in the tournament.

Asked if he misses the ITF Futures, the soft-spoken player said: “Yes of course, I do miss it.”

“Yeah, I would have performed much better if I had to participate based on my current form.”

He also told our correspondent that he was particularly happy for “Major, Clifford (Enosoregbe) and Thomas (Otu)”

Nigerian players who participated in the first leg of the ITF Futures could not make it past the second round in the Singles event, but Sylvester Emmanuel pulled through in the doubles and was on the verge of playing in his first-ever doubles final before crashing in the semis.
Reports from Abuja this afternoon have it that Nigerian players are already gearing up for the qualifying rounds of the Dayak Open as the Wild Card slots are also being fought for.
More updates from the tournament will follow later.
