    BREAKING: Nigeria’s No 1 Player Moses Crashes Out Of Governor’s Cup (photo)

    Nigeria’s Michael Moses has been dumped out of the first leg of the ongoing Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship after losing 6-3, 6-2 to France’s Calvin Hemery.

    The Nigerian number one male tennis player who had been tipped to lead the pack of local contingent into the second round and gof ar in the competition, was beaten by a French player of Nigerian descent at the centre court of the Lagos Lawn Tennis Court.

    Michael Moses lost his first round match to a top seed on Tuesday morning.

    Speaking after the match, Moses told Naija Tennis Special correspondent at the restroom that he lost to the superior firepower of the French guy and had no choice than to lose the game.

    “He did not allow me settle down, but I tried my best. The best was not good enough, though, I hope to do better in subsequent games,” he said.

    The player’s next game is the doubles with his partner, Christian Paul, who was also beaten by the number 8 seed of the tournament on Monday.

    In other matches, Nomso Madueke lost 3-6, 0-6, to Poland’s Karol Drzewiecki just as Bikom Albert was defeated 6-1, 6-0 by Sasi Kumar Mukund from India.

    Anthony Obekpa tried to salvage some respect for the Nigerian contingent playing on Tuesday, but his comeback was cut short by another impressive player, Pavel Mirobyan from Russia.

    Obekpa lost 1-6, 6-3, 4-6, but he was hailed by the home players who gave him all the moral support he needed to ensure he got a win.

    As at the time of filing this report, Umaru Balami was losing 0-6, 0-3 to Gianni Mina, the number five seed from France.
