Reports reaching Naija Tennis Special have it that top players from America and Europe have signified their interest in participating at this year’s Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship.

In a chat with our correspondent, the secretary of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), Mrs Gloria Ekwempu, noted that many of these top class players from all over the world have already indicated their interests in attending the $100,000 tournament holding in October.

Spain’s Perez is one of the many Europeans who have won the tournament in the past.

“Players from USA, Germany, Russia, Cameroon, South Africa, Ghana, India, Egypt, Tunisia among other European countries have indicated their interests in playing at this year’s Governor’s Cup.

“It looks like we will have our hands full for the tournament and these players have already registered. I am looking forward to having a great time in Lagos when the tournament commences properly,” she stated.

Feelers from the federation also have it that the influx of players to this year’s championship may not be unconnected to increase in prize money for the ITF Circuit which now stands at an astonishing $100,000 over two legs.

The tournament will hold at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos from Friday, October 7 – 22, 2016.
