Enosoregbe Ends Second Consecutive Year As Nigeria’s No. 1

Men’s Singles winner at the Dala Hard Court Tennis Championship in Kano, Clifford Enosoregbe, has ended the year as Nigeria’s number one male tennis player, the second consecutive year he’s ending with this feat.
The Benin-based tennis prodigy, who also won the inaugural Nigeria Ports Authority, NPA Tennis Open in Abuja, beat the likes of Abdulmumuni Babalola and Shehu Lawal, to emerge as Nigeria’s top tennis star of the year.

Clifford Enosoregbe will end 2014 as Nigeria’s number one male tennis player

The 2011 All Africa Games gold medalist believes that there is still work to do if he must retain the top spot at the end of 2015, especially because of the youngsters who are forthcoming and the level of exposure of Nigerian players.
According to him, “I’m really happy that I shall end the year as the number one male tennis player for the second year on the bounce. It has not been as easy as the results seem as some of you are already aware.
“It has been a great deal of hard work and dedication to the game. We played more tournaments this year and that also helped with my fitness and confidence on the court. My sole prayer is to remain injury free as and as long as the tournaments keep coming, I promise not to disappoint”.
On the emergence of the youngsters in the course of the year, Enosoregbe believes that it is a good development for the country’s tennis because it will make the more established players to sit up and work more on themselves.
He said. “It is a wake up call for those who are relaxed that the younger ones will take their places if they continue to be complacent. Our tennis will also be better for it since we shall also have more strong players around”.
