Nigeria’s tennis sensation, Marylove Edwards, has continued to turn heads with her unwavering performances as she won her first tournament in the United States, barely after spending a month at the Nick Bolleteri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

Marylove won the USTA Celsius Level 6 girls’ 14 & Under tournament at the first time of calling, a feat which will draw more attention to her at the US Academy.

Findings by Nigerian Tennis Live revealed that the Nigerian player was ruthless in her matches and did not spare any of her opponents as she won all the matches before winning the final in an amazing fashion.

Marylove is all smiles as she holds her first trophy from the United States.

In the round of sixteen, she defeated Anastasiia Pestereva in two straight sets of 6-3, 6-2 and was responsible for the scalp of Nicole Ciemark in a 6-0, 6-1 game in the quarter finals before ensuring her place in the final with a 6-2, 6-0 defeat of Stella Rundova.

The final match appeared to be one of the easiest games in the tournament for Marylove as she saw off Nina Sidhu, her opponent in the final, with a 6-0, 6-1 win to claim her first trophy since her departure from Nigeria about 20 days ago.

Nigerian Tennis Live spoke with her Nigerian coach, Kayode Savage, about the player’s feat and he expressed immense happiness about her performance even though stated that he was not surprised because he knows what she is capable of doing on the court.

The USTA Celsius trophy that Marylove recently won.

“As we all know, she is a player who fights hard on the court and has the ability to take on anybody at anytime.

“While I must say that I am very happy about her progress in the United States, I will also like to add that she has not even started. If she keeps her focus and continues at this pace, it will not be too long before she becomes the very best,” the man fondly called KK, offered.
