No fewer than fourteen Nigerian players have made it to the Main Draw of the J60 Accra event as the fourth week of junior ITF event serves off in Ghana.

The six-week long ITF event started with two J30 Accra tournaments which were won by Ghana and Nigeria in the first and second weeks consecutively while the J60 event was concluded last weekend.

Daniel Adeleye, the tournament’s number two seed, did what he knows how best to do to defeat fellow Nigerian compatriot, Lucky Danjuma, in two straight sets.

In what was Adeleye’s second ever J60 title and his fourth junior ITF title in 2024, the Davis Cup player proved to be the best player at the event in Ghana, giving the spectators a lot to cheer about.

As the junior ITF event enters its fourth week in Accra, Nigeria Tennis Live reports that seven male and female players respectively are playing for the J60 title.

In the boys’ Singles event, Adeleye leads the pack as the tournament’s number two seed while he is joined by Prosperity Okonkwo, Franklin Jimoh, Mubarak Ganiyu and Lucky Danjuma.

The new set of Nigerians to join their counterpart at the junior ITF event are Yahaya Sani Inabo and Oluwatobi Agboola from the Mambilla Barracks Tennis Club in Abuja.

Khadijat Mohammed remains the highest ranked Nigerian female in Ghana while Etoro Bassey, the last woman standing at last week’s J60 event, is also in contention for the title.

Budding tennis sensation, Bisola Ogunkolade, Cross River-based Toluwalashe Agunbiade, National Youth Games gold winner, Bright Emmanuel, Favour Godwin and Ekiti-born Success Ogunjobi make up the other female players at the event.

Checks by Nigeria Tennis Live revealed that no country has more entries in the Main Draw of the event than Nigeria, not even hosts Ghana, as they only boast of nine players in the competition.

With fourteen players competing with their opponents from other countries, for the ultimate prize in junior tennis, it will be interesting to see how far Nigeria can go to either win a third consecutive title in Ghana, or relinquish the win to another country.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep tabs on the action happening at the Grade 4 junior ITF event and report all the updates to our teeming readers scattered across the globe.
