The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has announced an introduction of a round robin format to the J30 and J60 World Tennis Tour Junior events.

This announcement was made on the world tennis governing body’s Instagram page on Thursday evening, stating that it will help boost opportunities for junior tennis players.

Prior to this announcement, every junior ITF tournament used to abide by the knockout format for the Main Draw of the events. However, this new announcement may have changed the look of the competition.

The post shared on @itftennis, the official Instagram page of the ITF, reads: “Round Robin Format Introduced At Entry Level Junior Tennis”.

It reads further: “For the first time in the 49-year history of the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors, round-robin formats are being introduced – at J3- and J60 events.

“Every player is guaranteed at least three group-stage matches, ending the one-and-done experience. This accelerates the development of players, particularly those aged 13-16, by helping them reach 50-70 meaningful matches per year.

“It also reduces travel demands, ensures better value for money and allows a more inclusive experience across the pathway”.

This new development by the world tennis governing body will be seen as a welcome development for parents who spend a lot of money traveling to participate in tournaments only to get knocked out after playing one match.

Nigeria Tennis Live will share more updates on this new introduction by the ITF as the story keeps developing.
