Musa Mohammed has reached the final of the Dr. Joseph Ikyaator Tennis Open Championship after a run of outstanding results in Makurdi, Benue State.
The Abuja-based top Nigerian tennis player was responsible for the defeat of Daniel Adeleye, Nigeria’s number one male tennis player, in the quarterfinal of the national ranking event in Benue State. He won 7-6, 6-4 in what was an unprecedented result for him.

Mohammed will now face off against Canice Abua, the Nigerian number two male tennis player, after seeing off David John, aka Akila, 6-1, 7-6(4) in the semifinal of the competition.

After reaching his second consecutive the final courtesy of the defeat of former Nigerian number one player and Davis Cup skipper, Uche Oparaoji, in straight sets which ended 6-2, 6-4, Abua has now reached the joint most finals in the 2025 tennis season.

He reached the finals of the VEMP Open, Dala Hard Court Championship as well as the newly-introduced Dr. Joseph Ikyaator Tennis Open event in Benue State.
The only other player to have reached the same number of national finals as Abua is Daniel Adeleye, who reached three finals including the Rainoil, VEMP and the DavNotch Open championships and won only two.
