Organizers of the first ever Dr. Joseph Ikyaator Tennis Open have concluded plans to make life easier for participants after a recent update.

The Ikyaator Tennis Open, which is making its entry into the Nigerian tennis scene is scheduled to hold from 16-23 December, 2026, inside the Aper Aku Stadium Makurdi and the Makurdi Tennis Club 1930, Benue State, Nigeria.

Nigeria Tennis Live gathered that the tournament, which is also a national ranking event, is attracting top players from every part of the country, including the top two male tennis players – Daniel Adeleye and Canice Abua.

The Ikyaator Open is offering N1,000,000 (one million naira) as prize money to the Men’s Singles Champion while the Women’s Singles winner goes home with N500,000 (five hundred thousand naira).

Rose Abu, the Tournament Director, also confirmed to our correspondent that there will be free accommodation for all the players in the Main Draw from the start of the tournament to the end as a way of cushioning the expenses on the players’ logistics.

“The free accommodation for all main draw players will be from start to the end of the tournament, because we need the players to concentrate fully on the competition, and give their best on the court,” she noted during a brief chat with Nigeria Tennis Live.

The Men’s Draw will be 32 while the Women’s Draw will consist of 16 players. In the qualifying rounds, eight players will qualify from the Men’s Draw of 32 players while four will make it to the Main Draw from the Ladies’ qualifying draw of 16.

Below is the breakdown of the prize money for both male and female players:

Men’s Singles:

Winner: N1,000,000

Runner up: N500,000

Semifinals: N250,000 x 2 -N500,000

Quarterfinals: N200,000 x 4 – N800,000

Round of 16: N150,000 x 8 – N1,200,000

1st round losers N100,000 x 16 – N1,600,000

Total prize money for men is N5,600,000

Women’s Singles:

Winner: N500,000

Runner up: N300,000

Semifinalists: N200,000 x 2 – N400,000

Quarterfinals: N150,000 x 4 – N600,000

Round of 16 N100,000 x 8 – N800,000

Total prize money for ladies is N2,600,000.

Grand total for prize money for both men and women is N8,200,000.
