Dabira Oluwaseyi, an Abuja-based tennis youngster, has reached the semifinal of the Gbolahan Odele Junior Tennis Championship in Lagos.

The 11-year-old tennis prodigy will be playing her second consecutive semifinal match after reaching the semis of the TPPA National Junior Tennis Championship in Lagos about two weeks ago.

In her first time out at the Gbolahan Odele Junior tennis event, she will be playing the semis in the U-12 category alongside other top players in her category, the likes of Mabubat Rasaki, Kimberly Ogundeyi and Barakat Ganiyu.

The girls’ U-12 matches promise to be among the most exciting pairings at the ongoing championship as they are some of the hottest junior tennis prospects in the country at the moment.

In the Boys’ U-12 category, Raphael Awi, Absulmazeed Salau, Emmanuel Sander and Jamiu Mohammed are strong contenders for the title in what will be another tough battle on Friday, 22 August, 2025.

Lagos-based Salau is one of the players to watch out for in this category as the players file out to give one another a run for their money.

Chief Gbolahan Odele, sponsor of the competition, noted that his dreams and aspirations for sponsoring the competition remains as it was, “to discover at least one Nigerian who will rise up from playing this tournament.

“That one player that we can all say that we nurtured from this competition, and who is able to hit global limelight from playing this competition – that is the goal, and that is my earnest desire”.

The Gbolahan Odele Junior tennis championship which served off on Monday, 18 August, 2025, is scheduled to end on Saturday, 23 August, 2025, inside the Adejumo Tennis Complex, Ejigbo, Lagos.
