No fewer than three players from Lagos State are in the finals of the TPPA UTR National Junior Tennis Championship holding inside the Lagos Country Club, Ikeja.
Nathaniel Aluko, a finalist in the Boys’ U-14 category in 2024, made a brilliant comeback to defeat Ekiti State’s Seyi Ogunsakin and last year’s winner in a final set semifinal match on Friday evening.
The Lagos Country Club youngster was emphatic in the encounter, while throwing in some brilliant forehand shots that have semblance to world number one tennis player, Jannick Sinner’s.
He will be hoping to win his first ever national U-16 title on Saturday when he takes on his opponent in what promises to be an exhilarating match.
The Girls’ Youth category will see two players from Lagos State, Bright Emmanuel and Abosede Bamidele, slug it out for the coveted prize and giant trophy on Saturday.

Emmanuel, who has played three consecutive finals in senior national tournaments without recording a win, will be hoping to finally lay her hands on a winners’ trophy this year.
Salvation Alex and Abubakar Yusuf, both from the FCT, will also be in contention for the title in the Girls’ U-14 and Boys’ Youth categories respectively on Saturday morning.
In other matches, Osamuyi Idehen from Edo State and Godwin Afaramai from Lagos will battle for the Boys’ U-12 title while Oyo State’s Mabubat Rasaki and Karina Opuene from Bayelsa will slug it out in the Girls’ U-12 final.

The matches are expected to serve off by 9am on Saturday, 9 August, 2025 inside the tennis section of the Lagos Country Club, Ikeja, venue of the national event.
