The Kano State Sports Commissioner, Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso has expressed his delight at the ongoing Tennis Players Parents Association (TPPA) organized UTR tournament in Kano.

The sports Commissioner was in attendance at the Kano Club, venue of the Kano leg of the regionals, and was said to have been surprised that a tournament of that magnitude was being held in the State.

Youngsters from different parts of the State were excited to visit the venue of the regionals holding in Kano for the first time, and the visit of the Commissioner was a testament to how highly they rate the event.

“He was very impressed and also surprised that the tournament was sponsored from Lagos, it was his first time coming into Kano club.

“He promised to support the youth tennis and he also developed interest to play tennis, He was accompanied by the special adviser to the state Governor on youth and sports,” the Kano coordinator of the event told Nigeria Tennis Live about Kwankwaso’s visit.

Meanwhile, action served off across other regions where the TPPA-UTR regionals is holding across Nigeria.

In Minna, Niger State, the kids were excited to be back on their courts; inside the tennis courts of the Mambilla Barracks in Abuja, the story was not different.

The enthusiastic youngsters were seen on the courts competing rigorously for the UTR points which helps student-athletes gain scholarship to US Colleges.

The National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, played host to some of the best youngsters around as the Lagos leg of the regionals also served off on Wednesday, 19 February, 2025. In Benin and Ibadan, the story was also the same.

In Ilorin, the competition will serve off on Thursday while players in Owerri, Imo State are already gearing up for their own version of the tournament which is expected to start on Friday, 21 February.
