David Ekpenyong has returned to the Nigerian Davis Cup fold after a year’s absence and will be playing Nigeria’s first match against South Africa.

Nigeria take on hosts, South Africa in the first match of the Davis Cup World Group II Playoffs inside the Groenkloof Tennis Stadium, Pretoria on Saturday & Sunday, 1 & 2 February, 2025.

Both countries will be playing five matches during the tie. Four Singles and one Doubles encounter. The first match will be between the number one player from the host country, Philip Henning and Nigeria’s number two which happens to be Ekpenyong.

The second match on Saturday will be between Christopher Bulus, Nigeria’s number one player in the Davis Cup competition and Kris van Wyk, the second-placed player from South Africa.

On Sunday, the players will play reverse Singles which will see Bulus take on Henning while Ekpenyong will face van Wyk.

Canice Abua and Michael Emmanuel are scheduled to play the Doubles match against the South African pair of Alec Beckley and Leo Matthysen.

The draw was concluded during a beautiful ceremony held inside the Garden Field Hotel, Hatfield, with ITF Officials, players, federation representatives and coaches from both nations in attendance.

Matches are expected to serve off by 11am South African time (10am Nigerian time) on Saturday and will be livestreamed via a channel that will be communicated to our teeming audience.
