EXCLUSIVE: NTF Adds Another National Tournament To Yearly Calendar

Nigerian Tennis Live can exclusively report that the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) is concluding plans to add a new national tournament to the two regular national championships (CBN Open and Dala Hard Court Championship) in the country.

Tennis players in the country have cut frustrated figures over the past few years over the absence of top national tournaments and competitions to give them the required match fitness as well as the competitive edge, but this may not continue with the latest development as revealed by the NTF.

President of the federation, Engr. Ifedayo Akindoju, in a chat with our correspondent, assured that Rainoil is concluding plans on the sponsorship of another national championship in the country and this is likely to start from December, 2017.

Don’t worry, the NTF is working to restore the glory of Nigerian tennis; Engr. Akindoju assures Nigerian tennis players.

“The plans to host a national senior tournament are being concluded right now, but I cannot confirm the date just yet because there are some things which are being put in place for the event.

“Before long, things will get in proper shape for the successful hosting of a national tournament in December with prize monies.

“There shall also be a junior tournament in December which is an initiative of the NTF because our major focus is to get the players from the grassroots level, and build them into world class beaters in the right environment and with the best facilities available,” Engr. Akindoju explained.

There are also talks about the resuscitation of the NPA Open which the NTF President said was a five-year deal that should not be left unattended to.

Nigerian Tennis Live will monitor these new developments and publish details about all these tournaments and the new ones as soon as the ‘coast is clear’.
