The Nigeria Tennis Umpires Association (NTUA) has commiserated with the family and friends of Engr. Ifedajo Akindoju over the demise of the NTF President.

Engr. Akindoju’s passing was confirmed on Thursday, 2 October, 2025, after an illness, and it has thrown the Nigerian tennis community into deep mourning and grief.

In a statement issued on Friday, 3 October by Efe Okwagbe, the NTUA Chairman, Engr. Akindoju’s sudden death is said to have left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of the tennis umpires with whom he is held in high regard.

“With a heavy heart, the Nigeria Tennis Umpires Association, commiserations with the family & friends of ENGR. IFEDAYO AKINDOJU, the President of our parent body – the Nigeria Tennis Federation(NTF), Vice President of the Confederation of Africa Tennis(CAT); also a formidable patron of NTUA.

“His departure yesterday 2nd October 2025 has left an irreplaceable void as a mentor, coach, counsellor, friend, brother & father to NTUA members. His impact in Tennis & officiating in Nigeria is very palpable.

“Burial arrangements shall be as announced by the family in the days ahead. Let’s kindly uphold the family in our prayers,” the statement read in part.

The NTUA has now enjoined Nigerians across the country to honour the late NTF President by lowering tennis nets across the country on Saturday noon.

“As a mark of respect, & in his honour, a minute silence & lowering of all Tennis nets across Nigeria shall be observed on Saturday, 4th Oct, 2025 by 12noon at the Center Court, National Stadium, Durumi, Abuja.

“Please, all NTUA members, tennis players and tennis lovers alike are encouraged to be on ground by 11.30am prompt across the country to honour a great TENNIS ICON,” the statement added.
