Daniel Adeleye has been confirmed as the new number one male tennis player in Nigeria, Nigeria Tennis Live has gathered.

Adeleye, winner of the VEMP Open and finalist at the Rainoil Open earlier this year, will be sitting on top of the new rankings ahead of the fast approaching Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Open event.

The Lagos-based tennis player, is also in the semifinal of the ongoing DavNotch National Tennis Open Championship, after defeating Abubakar Yusuf 6-1, 6-4 in their quarterfinal match on Thursday, 17 July, 2025.

Youngsters Lucky Danjuma and Yayaha Sani-Inabo who gave good accounts of themselves, reaching the final and quarterfinals respectively, also moved significantly on the national rankings.

Khadijat Mohammed, winner of the VEMP Open Championship, is leading the pack in the Women’s category, after defeating Etoro Bassey in an enthralling finale on Saturday, 11 July, 2025.

Bassey has now moved into top three of the national rankings, as she is only bested by Mary Udoffa in second place.

Suwa Nenrot, the player from the qualifying rounds, reached the semis of the VEMP Open championship, and lost in the second round, but she still made a significant improvement on the rankings.

The Plateau-State born youngster is now ranked 15th on the national rankings, qualifying her for the main draw of the forthcoming CBN Open Championship.
